This steel staircase has been sculptured from our Perftec range and has been featured on Channel 4’s latest series of Grand Designs (S17, E2).
It has been fabricated from specially perforated and laser cut mild steel, upholding its tensile strength, whilst the treads are fixed to the wall without stringers to create a floating aesthetic. Its perforated design allows light to flow freely through the area and form interesting shadows on the surrounding walls. When standing from afar you are able to see straight through the staircase and this adds an element of openness to the entire space.
The overlay of the stairs and balustrade adds texture and creates a moire effect, which further enhances the interest of the sculpture. Whilst they appear as though they’re fabricated with different panels, they are in fact one complete piece with different holes.
Penny Talelli who owns the property said: “the staircase is the best thing about the house. I love that it brings light into the house even on a dark day. It is a piece of art and throws fantastic shades on the wall.”
